The new "2019 Consumer Returns in the Retail Industry" report states that the overall value of returned merchandise in the United States during the past year was $309 billion, and returns from online purchases accounted for $41 billion of the total amount. Even though many of these returns could be attributed to the quality of the product, the wrong size, or simply the consumer's second thoughts, the rising trend of 'wardrobing' – where consumers purchase an item, use it, and then return it – is rapidly becoming one of the biggest challenges facing the retail industry.
